About This Event

"You’re invited! What happens when NYC's favorite reading party teams up with the National Book Foundation to open the doors to summer? You're about to find out. Join us on June 2nd at Untitled Hotel on Freeman's Alley for an evening that marks the official start of the National Book Foundation's 2026 Summer Reading Adventure. We're inviting readers to one of the city's most beautiful spaces for a night of reading, conversation, and community, featuring New York Times bestselling author Naima Coster and advance galley copies of her upcoming novel Take What You Can (out August 4). About the Book Take What You Can is a rich, panoramic exploration of female friendship, class, new motherhood, and independence. Val and Milly bonded as the only two Black students on a study abroad trip in France and became instant best friends. Now in their thirties, each married and expecting a baby girl, they reunite in New York to raise their daughters together. But strained marriages, gaps in class, and the demands of motherhood reveal the cracks in a decade-long friendship. Set between Brooklyn brownstones and the beaches of southern France, it's the kind of novel you'll want to devour in one sitting, then immediately discuss with the person next to you. Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2026 by People. Pre-order your copy: bookshop.org About the Author Naima Coster is a New York Times bestselling author and a recipient of the National Book Foundation's 5 Under 35 honor. Her novel What's Mine and Yours was a Read with Jenna pick and named a best book of the year by Kirkus Reviews, Esquire, Marie Claire, and more. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Elle, Time, and The Cut. She earned her MFA at Columbia University, has taught writing for over a decade, and lives in Brooklyn. Reading Rhythms is a series of welcoming reading parties designed to make it easy for people to gather and read socially. We invite you to bring any book you want and facilitate silent reading periods, as well as 1-on-1 breakouts, and group discussions to pull on the threads of the books that everyone is engaging with. In a world that can often feel devoid of interest and meaningful connection, we bring readers together to reconnect with our love of learning, to experience the wonder of beautiful venues and curated music, and to gather amongst all of the people who want to be in that very same room. Our favorite conversations happen in the Reading Rhythms mobile app. Join us there → https://readingrhythms.app ___________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer: By purchasing a ticket, you agree to have your photo/video used for social media/marketing materials, both as property of Reading Rhythms and other publications that may be present at our reading parties. Additionally, your purchase is final and no refunds will be given under any circumstances. By completing your purchase, you will also be automatically added to our newsletter to receive updates and event information."

What Readers Say

Quotes icon

"I leave every single Reading Rhythms party feeling like skipping all the way home even if the work day preceding it makes me tired or kind of cranky. I love seeing the stars in all your eyes as you depart as well, gives me goosebumps!"

— Regular Attendee

Quotes icon

"I'm 88 years old and moved to Hudson Yards to be closer to my grandkids. I think this is a wonderful idea."

— Judith

Quotes icon

"We're embedded with everyday superficial conversations, the kind of small talk that is essentially bland, useless and tasteless. RR gives people the chance to connect similar people together in the same room."

— Community Member

Quotes icon

"That first event I attended was really cool for me because I'd been wanting to just read more often and making a plan to just go somewhere and read really kept me accountable to that."

— NYC Newcomer

Quotes icon

"I'm so glad I found Reading Rhythms! I had no idea how much I needed and wanted to connect with other readers. Last night was another exceptional experience, full of connection, laughter, and community."

— Stacee

Quotes icon

"Event space was great. Host brought great energy. Really enjoyed the quiet time reading and the conversation in the middle. Did get slightly distracted by the music (but only because it was good and I was Shazam'ing it)."

— Bradley Layton

Quotes icon

"It reminded me why I attend Reading Rhythms in the first place. Not only do they care about the readers, but they also champion the small businesses that helped shape this community in the first place."

— Andres

Quotes icon

"I really enjoyed the choice to read by the sea, the atmosphere, and the connection that was created with the other readers."

— Bernardina (Amalfi Coast)
