We're teaming up with Little, Brown and Company for an outdoor reading party celebrating Alan Opts Out, the new novel by Courtney Maum. A summer Sunday evening on the lawn, a book about a man who quits capitalism entirely, and a park full of people who'd rather be reading. It doesn't get more on-theme than that.
About the book: Alan has just spectacularly bombed the biggest ad pitch of his career. Instead of spiraling, he does the unthinkable: he opts out. Of the job. Of the commute. Of the entire performance of modern life. He's going to live off the land in suburban Connecticut, and his family and neighbors are about to lose their minds. It's a joyous, biting farce about what happens when one man decides he's done pretending, and everyone around him has to figure out what they actually want, too.
The evening includes:
- Reading Rhythms outdoor edition: silent reading in the park to curated music

We'll be set up on the lawn by The McCarren Parkhouse, so grab a drink, find a spot on the grass, and opt out for a night.
