Books & Blankets

Join Reading Rhythms Queens for a relaxed Sunday morning in Astoria Park.

Before summer gently gives way to fall, join us for a leisurely morning of books, conversation, and community overlooking the East River, where the city's industrial waterfront meets open green space.

Bring the book you're currently reading and settle in on the lawn beneath the shade of a beautiful tree. Whether you're discovering a new favorite, exchanging recommendations, or simply enjoying the company of fellow readers, Books & Blankets is an invitation to slow down and savor the season together.

Finding us is easy:
Enter Astoria Park from 23rd Road and follow the path down the hill toward the water. You'll find us on the large lawn beneath the big tree, gathered on our signature Reading Rhythms plaid blanket, just to the right of the playground.

What to bring:

📚 The book you're currently reading.
🧺 Your favorite blanket or beach towel to create your own cozy reading spot. Pillows are always welcome!
☕ Your favorite coffee, tea, or morning beverage.
🥐 A brown bag breakfast or early lunch.

Please note that coffee and food options are not conveniently located near this area of the park, so we recommend picking up anything you'd like to enjoy before you arrive.

Bring a book, pack a blanket, and join us for a beautiful morning in the park. We can't wait to see you!

Reading Rhythms is a series of welcoming reading parties designed to make it easy for people to gather and read socially. We invite you to bring any book you want and facilitate silent reading periods, as well as 1-on-1 breakouts and group discussions to pull on the threads of the books that everyone is engaging with.

In a world that can often feel devoid of interest and meaningful connection, we bring readers together to reconnect with our love of learning, to experience the wonder of beautiful venues and curated music, and to gather amongst all of the people who want to be in that very same room.

What Readers Say

Quotes icon

"I leave every single Reading Rhythms party feeling like skipping all the way home even if the work day preceding it makes me tired or kind of cranky. I love seeing the stars in all your eyes as you depart as well, gives me goosebumps!"

— Regular Attendee

Quotes icon

"I'm 88 years old and moved to Hudson Yards to be closer to my grandkids. I think this is a wonderful idea."

— Judith

Quotes icon

"We're embedded with everyday superficial conversations, the kind of small talk that is essentially bland, useless and tasteless. RR gives people the chance to connect similar people together in the same room."

— Community Member

Quotes icon

"That first event I attended was really cool for me because I'd been wanting to just read more often and making a plan to just go somewhere and read really kept me accountable to that."

— NYC Newcomer

Quotes icon

"I'm so glad I found Reading Rhythms! I had no idea how much I needed and wanted to connect with other readers. Last night was another exceptional experience, full of connection, laughter, and community."

— Stacee

Quotes icon

"Event space was great. Host brought great energy. Really enjoyed the quiet time reading and the conversation in the middle. Did get slightly distracted by the music (but only because it was good and I was Shazam'ing it)."

— Bradley Layton

Quotes icon

"It reminded me why I attend Reading Rhythms in the first place. Not only do they care about the readers, but they also champion the small businesses that helped shape this community in the first place."

— Andres

Quotes icon

"I really enjoyed the choice to read by the sea, the atmosphere, and the connection that was created with the other readers."

— Bernardina (Amalfi Coast)
